چکیده
Magnesium alloys, due to their attractive characteristics, are being utilized as lightweight structural materials in aerospace, automotive, and various other industries. Further design flexibility can be obtained by joining the Mg alloys with outstanding performance, such aluminum alloys. In this study, Al-6062 AZ31B have been joined through friction stir welding (FSW) using high-speed steel (HSS) tool. The impact of two important process parameters, including spindle speed speed, has evaluated on ultimate tensile strength (UTS). addition, effect advancing side also assessed. Analysis variance performed based full factorial design. For maximum UTS, study suggests 100 rpm 50 mm/min respectively magnesium side. weld is 110% higher than that magnesium-magnesium joint.

Bimetal friction stir welding of aluminum to magnesium
FSW material flow and phase transformation were studied at the interface of dissimilar welding of Al 6013 to Mg. Defect free butt weld was obtained when aluminum and magnesium test plates were placed in the advancing side and retreating side respectively, and the tool was placed 1 mm off the weld centerline into the aluminum side. In order to understand how the materials flow during FSW, steel ...
متن کاملAnalysis and Comparison of Friction Stir Welding and Laser Assisted Friction Stir Welding of Aluminum Alloy
Friction Stir Welding (FSW) is a solid-state joining process; i.e., no melting occurs. The welding process is promoted by the rotation and translation of an axis-symmetric non-consumable tool along the weld centerline. Thus, the FSW process is performed at much lower temperatures than conventional fusion welding, nevertheless it has some disadvantages. Laser Assisted Friction Stir Welding (LAFS...
متن کاملOn the Characteristics of Friction Stir Welding Lap Joint of Magnesium and Aluminum
Lap joints of commercially pure magnesium plates to aluminium plates (Magnesium plate on the top, and Aluminium plate, grade 1100, on the bottom side) were conducted by friction stir welding using various traveling and rotation speeds of the tool to investigate the effects of the welding parameters on the joint characteristics and strength. Defect-free lap joints were obtained in the welding tr...

A liquation cracking mechanism of dissimilar Al alloys during the friction stir welding (FSW) is suggested in this study. To identify the mechanism, the precipitates were analyzed and Al-Mg-Cu phase diagrams were calculated. Electron backscattering diffraction (EBSD) analysis and electron probe microanalysis (EPMA) were also conducted. In the same manner as constitutional liquation, at high hea...
متن کاملFriction Stir Welding of Aluminum Alloys: A Review
Friction stir welding is a solid state joining process. High strength aluminum alloys are widely used in aircraft and marine industries. Generally, the mechanical properties of fusion welded aluminum joints are poor. As friction stir welding occurs in solid state, no solidification structures are created thereby eliminating the brittle and eutectic phases common in fusion welding of high streng...
